Lee County issued the following announcement on July 15.
The Lee County Finance Department was recently awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2020, making this the 25th year the County has received the award.
Last month, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) bestowed the award to the County Finance Department after the Fiscal Year 2019-2020 report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
“It is a great feeling to know that we have received the Certificate of Achievement for 25 years,” Assistant County Manager and Finance Director Lisa Minter said. “It was a daunting task to get the first one, and there have been some major reporting changes implemented over the last 25 years that were very challenging; however, with a great staff and support from County management, we have accomplished a major milestone.”
