FOIA Request to Lee County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

On February 5, South Triangle News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sent a request to the Lee County Election Department. The request was made under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.

We asked for specific details about each candidate including their first, middle and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and party affiliation. We also requested contact information for each candidate including their address, phone number and email address.

As a media organization, we believe that access to public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We are committed to disseminating this information accurately and responsibly. Given our role in gathering and reporting news to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await response from the Lee County Election Department and will keep our readers updated on any developments.
