FOIA Request Sent to Lee County Election Department Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024

FOIA Request to Lee County Election Department Regarding Pre-Election Voting Machine Test Reports on October 30, 2024.

At South Triangle News, we are committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs. As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in the electoral process, we have sent a request under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., to the Lee County Election Department.

The request specifically seeks access to pre-election test reports for voting machines used in the county. These reports should ideally be provided in a PDF format and include key details such as the test date, machine manufacturer, machine model number, and machine status indicating whether it passed or failed the test.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a response from the Lee County Election Department and will continue our efforts to keep the public informed about matters of civic importance.
