FOIA Request to Harnett County Election Department Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

As a part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South Triangle News have submitted a request under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1. The request is aimed at obtaining a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.

The requested information includes the first, middle, and last names of the candidates, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office, and party affiliation of each candidate. We also requested contact information for each candidate which includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As media professionals involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

Our efforts are geared towards ensuring that the electorate is well-informed about their choices in the upcoming elections. We believe that this will aid voters in making informed decisions when casting their ballots.
