City of Sanford issued the following announcement on June 24.
Free Masks Now Available to the Public
UPDATE: On June 24, Gov. Roy Cooper announced Executive Order 147 extended Phase 2 of North Carolina’s reopening schedule. The order also makes it mandatory for North Carolinians to wear a mask in public places. Read the Executive Order here. Access more information about the Executive Order with this FAQ document.
To help reduce the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and make Sanford/Lee County safer for everyone, free masks will be available to the public beginning Thursday, June 25.
The initiative is part of Mayor Chet Mann’s efforts to increase the number of people wearing masks in public places or where social distancing cannot be accommodated. “We can work together to slow down the spread of COVID-19 in Sanford by doing something as simple as wearing a mask,” Mann says.
Mann has made 2,000 masks available for personal use through the United States Conference of Mayors’ Masks for Mayors program, which is aimed at helping communities slow the spread of coronavirus. The program is possible thanks to a partnership with Bella+Canvas.
Making masks available to everyone is also part of the #SafeSanfordNC initiative spearheaded by the Sanford Area Growth Alliance; Downtown Sanford, Inc.; and the Visit Sanford TDA to guide businesses in reopening with customer and employee safety in mind. Learn more about the initiative here.
