A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Harnett County Election Department on October 30, 2024. The request was made by South Triangle News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
In the request, we sought access to records under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1. Specifically, we asked for the pre-election test reports of voting machines used in the county's elections. The requested details included the test date, machine manufacturer, machine model number, and machine status (whether it passed or failed).
As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to such information is essential for our work. It allows us to provide accurate and timely information to our readers about how their votes are being processed and counted.
We also highlighted our eligibility for a fee waiver as a media professional due to our role in disseminating information to the public.
South Triangle News continues its commitment towards ensuring transparency in local government affairs and will update readers as soon as more information becomes available.
