Lee County issued the following announcement on June 18.
Lee County Libraries launched their annual Summer Reading Incentive and Program on Monday, June 8, 2020. The program is open to all ages and will run through Saturday, August 29, 2020. The Summer Reading program is an annual combination of programming, events and a reading incentive designed to motivate participants with various entertaining and educational activities, prizes and raffles for reading.
“The Lee County Libraries Summer Reading program is for all ages,” said Beth List, Lee County Government Director of Library Services. “We include adults in the program because reading promotes health and wellness – increased and improved learning, brain activity, and memory strength – and allows adults to help set an example for our children that we should all be life-long readers. We highly encourage entire families, as well as individuals, to participate!”
The annual Library Summer Reading Incentive runs June 8th through August 29th. The incentive is for all ages and registration is required. With the library currently closed to the public, community members can schedule a “Curbside Pick-up” with staff to pick up/drop off registration form(s) and pick up the Summer Reading Incentive Bag for each participant. The library will offer the incentive at the circulation desk once the doors are open to the public. Registration forms and reading logs may also be found on the library website.
The Library is also offering their traditional Summer Reading programs on-line from June 15th through August 22nd. Arts & Crafts, STEAM Lab, Science for Kids, History for Kids and more are on the calendar. The annual POP!-Con will also be virtual in August, more details to come. All videos are published to the library’s YouTube channel @LeeCountyLIbrariesNC and shared on the library social media pages. A program schedule, as well as all documents mentioned above, are available on the library website at: library.leecountync.gov.
