TOWN OF GOLDSTON: “Cycle North Carolina” Cross-State Event Will Stop in Siler City

Town of Goldston issued the following announcement on Sept. 26.

The 2019 Cycle North Carolina “Mountains to Coast” Route will cross Chatham County, making an overnight stop in Siler City on October 1, 2019. The tour, with approximately 1,000 cyclists, starts in Blowing Rock on September 28 and ends in Atlantic Beach on October 5. Cycle North Carolina reports that the event draws cyclists from around the nation and even some from other countries. It is considered an annual highlight for cyclists in the United States.

WHEN: October 1, 2019, 10:00 a.m. – October 2, 2019, noon

“We are thrilled to join with the Pittsboro-Siler City Convention & Visitors Bureau to bring Cycle North Carolina to Chatham County and Siler City,” said Chatham County Manager Dan LaMontagne. “We hope that the cyclists will enjoy experiencing our hospitality as well as visiting restaurants, shops and other attractions that make our community so special.” 

Event Activities and Economic Impact

The tour gives cyclists the opportunity to experience local food, merchandise and art. Area businesses are expected to see a boost in customers, and additional festivities are scheduled for cyclists and the general public alike to enjoy. “This is Cycle North Carolina’s first time making an overnight stop in Siler City, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for people who have never been here to take in the scenic views and the wealth of to-dos,” said Neha Shah, director, Pittsboro-Siler City Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We want to make it as memorable as possible, so the tour will come back and the cyclists also will return for future visits.”

Roads and Transportation

All area roads will remain open during the tour. Chatham Transit is offering a complimentary shuttle service for guests to explore throughout their stay. There are different loops for various parts of Siler City.The cyclists will head out on the road to start their travels from Siler City to Clayton on October 2nd between the hours of 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. and will be cycling east on Alston Bridge Road from Bray Park. Given this is a school day, additional traffic congestion is expected. Law enforcement officers will be stationed in the area to direct traffic as needed. Still, anyone traveling in this area is asked to be extra mindful and exercise extreme caution.

The Cycle North Carolina “Mountains to Coast” Tour is the state’s only cross-state, fully-supported ride created in 1999 in partnership with the N.C. Division of Tourism, Capitol Broadcasting Company, the N.C. Department of Transportation and North Carolina Amateur Sports as founding partners.

Cycle North Carolina was developed to promote North Carolina’s scenic beauty, heritage tourism, visitor attractions, historic sites, state parks, fitness, healthy lifestyles and the benefits of bicycling to individuals and our state. During the past 20 years, Cycle North Carolina has stopped overnight in more than 100 North Carolina towns and visited over 700 North Carolina communities.
