School’s summer break signals the arrival of the season, bringing opportunities for outdoor activities like barbeques, poolside relaxation, and fireworks. However, with these activities comes the need to be vigilant about health and safety concerns associated with extreme heat.

Extreme heat ranks as the leading weather-related cause of death in the United States. It poses significant risks, particularly to children, seniors, individuals with preexisting health conditions, and those taking specific medications.

“Following these helpful tips, taking the proper precautions and using your common sense can go a long way towards helping you stay safe and healthy all summer long,” stated Claudia Lucia from Central Carolina Sandhills Family Care. She emphasized that recognizing signs of heat-related illnesses is crucial. Immediate medical attention should be sought if symptoms arise; in emergencies, calling 9-1-1 is advised.
