Census Bureau: 5.2% of people in Chatham County identified as multiracial in 2021

Of the 75,070 citizens living in Chatham County in 2021, 94.8% said they were only one race, while 5.2% said they were two or more races, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained in June.

The most prevalent racial group among citizens in Chatham County who reported being of a single race in 2021 was white, comprising 76.6% or 57,518 individuals. Following them, African American accounted for 11.4% and totaled 8,576 individuals.

The percentage of multiracial residents in Chatham County is 0.4% higher than the state average, which stands at 4.8%.
