A group of students from the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business competed Saturday in the state finals of the CFA Institute Research Challenge at UNC-Greensboro.
This was Campbell’s second year participating in the challenge and the second time making it to the finals.
The competing team included Tristan Harsch, Sierra Rogers, and Donavon Stell, with Assistant Professor of Finance, Corrine Carr, serving as the team’s faculty mentor.
The CFA Institute Research Challenge is a global competition that provides students with intensive training in financial analysis by having students assume the role of a research analyst, value a publicly traded stock, write an equity research report, and present their recommendation to buy, sell, or hold the stock.
“The CFA Research Challenge provided the students with a great opportunity to put the skills they have gained from managing the Burt Family Student Investment Fund to the test,” shared Dr. Corrine Carr. “We didn’t win, but the competition was such a great experience for the students. We’ll come back stronger next year.”
This year the focus company was Kontoor Brands Inc., an apparel company that includes brands such as Wrangler and Lee.
“The CFA Research Challenge was an excellent opportunity to display the financial techniques and principles we have learned over the last 3.5 years,” said Donavan Stell. “Analyzing the finances of large corporations isn’t light work, it opened our eyes to the complexity of the field. I’m proud of the way we have represented Campbell University on a global stage.”
