At its August 2, 2022, regular meeting, Sanford City Council approved system development fees for all newly connecting water and wastewater customers, effective September 1, 2022.
System development fees are one-time charges assessed to residential or commercial customers, developers, or builders for each new connection to the City’s water and/or wastewater system.
These fees allow the City to recover a proportional share of capital costs incurred to provide service availability and capacity for new infrastructure users.
System development fees are charged at the time the user applies for a new connection. The amount of the fee is based on the size of the water meter.
Example: A person building a new home needs to tap onto the City’s water and wastewater system. The new home requires a 3/4-inch water tap and a 4-inch sewer tap. Currently, the person would pay $950 for the water tap and $1,250 for the sewer tap. Beginning September 1, the person would pay an additional $1,146.77 for the water system development fee and $1,823.14 for the sewer system development fee, for a total of $5,169.91.
The changes do not affect the rates charged to customers for existing water and sewer services. System development fees are only assessed for a new connection.
