Job Summary

Chatham County is currently recruiting for a Financial Operations Specialist to join our outstanding Finance team. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team player with a willingness to learn and a heart for public service. Since 1989, Chatham County has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association. This position assists with fixed assets, general ledger reconciliation and other accounting duties

General duties include, but are not limited to:

 Fixed Assets

Work includes managing financial operations relating to fixed assets including recording the cost of newly acquired fixed assets, tracking existing fixed assets, recording depreciation, and accounting for the disposition of fixed assets and conducting annual physical counts of fixed assets. 

General Ledger Reconciliations 

Work includes performing professional accounting work including the maintenance and reconciliation of the general ledger and/or subledger, ensuring that all entries are accurate and that transactions are reported in accordance with accounting standards 

Grant-Related Work

Work includes reconciling grants to the general ledger and preparing reports to meet grant financial reporting requirements, assisting departments with questions regarding the monitoring and use of grant funds, and assisting with audit compliance and reporting.  

Annual Comprehensive Financial Report

This position also assists with the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and other reports as needed.

Minimum Qualifications 

The ideal candidate will possess bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Management, Finance or Accounting or Associates degree in related field with at least three (3) years of finance or accounting experience required; Experience in governmental accounting and/or MUNIS software is a plus. 

Salary 

Salary grade 64: $48,986

Please Note:  Effective October 5, 2021, any County employee that is unvaccinated will be required to be tested weekly. At-home tests will not be accepted and testing requirements will remain in place until further notice.
