City of Sanford recently issued the following announcement.
Downtown Sanford StreetFest & Fireworks will return to Downtown Sanford this Saturday with a full day of food, brews, music, vendors, art, and fireworks.
The festival opens at 1 p.m. and will last until 9 p.m. Wicker, Steele, and Carthage streets will close at 6:30 a.m. to allow for event set up. Moore Street will remain open until 4 p.m. After that, the street will close to allow festival go-ers to set up chairs and blankets on the street to watch the fireworks.
The main music stage will be on Wicker Street and will open at 2 p.m. with Bad Moon Rising followed by the Blackwater Rhythm & Blues Band. Headline band 120 Minutes will feature 90s alternative, pop, and rock music starting at 6:30 p.m.
The second stage will be located at the Temple Theatre on Carthage Street and will showcase local talent starting at 2 p.m., including Dancer’s Workshop, Prime Time Dance Academy, Magetsi 4H, Temple Teen Ensemble, and Triple Pointe Dance Academy.
The City of Sanford Appearance Commission will dedicate the public art in Charlie Watson Lane at 1:15 p.m. The Sudan Dunn Clowns, Black Belt Leadership Academy, Danza Azteca Olin, and Woody’s Wood Carving will also be featured during the event.
With a focus on low-touch activities this year, the festival will offer a selfie scavenger hunt with a chance to win a prize. From 2p to 4p, children can paint a pumpkin for free. There will also be three selfie stations scattered throughout downtown.
Downtown eateries and shops will be open on their regular schedules. Ten food trucks will be set up around downtown offering a mix of American and International cuisines. More than 40 craft and artisan vendors will offer unique wares throughout the event. There will also be educational and interactive booths for the whole family.
As the live music winds down, head to Depot Park and Moore Street for a dance party. Fireworks will light up the sky over downtown starting around 8:45 p.m., depending on weather.
DSI, along with the City of Sanford, the Sanford Area Growth Alliance, title sponsor Central Carolina Hospital, the Visit Sanford Tourism Development Authority, and participating businesses and nonprofits encourage attendees to follow all COVID-19 safety measures, including wearing a mask when social distancing is difficult. Info stations will be clearly marked and stocked with masks and sanitizer.
