Campbell University Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 9.
Campbell will look to build off back-to-back wins last weekend during another three-match tournament at the C of C Classic. The Camels will face Florida A&M Friday at 4:30 p.m. and play a Saturday doubleheader against Davidson at 10 a.m. and the host, College of Charleston, at 2 p.m.
This weekend will be the first of three straight road weekends the Camels will face. Campbell's next home match is October 1.
Series Histories
Current Campbell head coach Greg Goral has never faced any of the three teams that Campbell is slated to face this weekend.
Campbell and Davidson have met 17 times, with the Wildcats holding a 12-5 series edge. The teams first met in 1988 and were regular foes throughout the 1990s, but have met just once since the turn of the century, a 3-1 Campbell win in the 2009 season opener in Raleigh. The Camels have won each of the previous three meetings each by a score of 3-1.
The series history with Charleston is similar, with 15 all-time meetings between the teams, but none since 1997. Campbell is only 2-13 against the Cougars, but did win the last match in 1997 in straight sets in Charleston.
Campbell has never played Florida A&M.
About the Field
The Rattlers will enter the weekend with a 3-3 record. They are coming off a 1-2 weekend at the FGCU Classic with the win coming over Big South opponent USC Upstate.
FAMU is led by Dominique Washington, who is currently third in the country in kills/set at 5.11. Washington, a junior outside hitter, notched 29 kills in just four sets against FIU this season.
Davidson enters at 3-2 coming off a 1-2 weekend of their own at the North Florida Invitational. The Wildcats lost to Virginia Tech and North Florida and earned their win over Georgia State.
The Wildcats are led by libero Bella Brady, who is currently 16th in the nation in digs/set at 5.43.
C of C is 4-3 on the year and also went 1-2 last weekend. The Cougars topped Howard in five sets while falling to Miami (OH) and Duke.
Two Cougars are in the top 25 in service aces this season, Gabi Bailey (11) and Sammy Campion (22). C of C is 14th in the country as a team in aces.
Last Time Out
Campbell is coming off a 2-1 weekend at home at the Campbell Invitational. The Camels fell to JMU on Friday night in the home opener to drop the record to 0-4 to begin the season.
Campbell got in the win column twice by sweeping the Saturday doubleheader over Alabama State and NC Central. CU topped Alabama State in four sets and defeated NCCU in straight sets. The straight-sets win was the 13th consecutive in that fashion against NCCU.
After hitting below .100 throughout the first weekend, the offense eclipsed that mark in all three matches at home, including hitting .215 against ASU.
Claranne Fechter and Melody Paige were each named to the all-tournament team. That is Paige's second all-tournament selection of the season.
