Campbell Athletics employs Strategic Plan

2

Campbell University Athletics issued the following announcement on Aug. 11.

Campbell University Athletics announced its strategic plan Wednesday, providing a new mission statement, vision statement and list of core values to guide the department's priorities and decisions into the future as the Fighting Camel program continues to maintain its success and upward trajectory in the Big South Conference and NCAA Division I.

Working with Collegiate Sports Associates (CSA), Director of Athletics Dr. Omar Banks and a steering committee comprised of administrators, alumni, fans, faculty, students and staff members, began the process in late 2019 with an extensive review of the Campbell Athletics department by CSA.

The mission statement: "Build and grow student-athletes' lives through experience and opportunity" is followed by the strategic priorities:

Student-Athlete Experience

Resource Development

Operational and Financial Responsibility

Marketing and Branding

Competitive Excellence

Vision Statement: We will set a standard of excellence defined by our achievements in holistic development of student-athletes, competitive success and community engagement.

"The Campbell Athletics Strategic plan is a significant milestone for our department, as we have established ourselves as the best all-around athletics program in the Big South Conference," says Dr. Banks.  "We expect to lead in competition, in the classroom and in service, while being integrated with the campus and greater Campbell community.  Combined with judicious management of resources, the support of Campbell's donors, alumni, fans and campus community will be key to our continued success, and we will continue to contribute to a vibrant University and student experience."

Core Values

Respect: Respect for a strong sense of community, family, and leadership rooted in our Christian mission and heritage.

Diversity, Inclusion, Equity: Create and sustain an inclusive environment that respects, welcomes, affirms, and honors diversity in all forms (including, but not limited to, race, color, origins, age, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status, or disability).

Integrity: We are committed to acting with moral courage and the utmost ethical responsibility in every aspect of athletics.

Student-Athlete Well-Being: We are dedicated to the holistic Student-Athlete experience through the development of academic and competitive excellence and moral, physical, social and spiritual well-being.

Stewardship: Strive to maintain transparency, responsibility and accountability in our decision making with University resources, its reputation, and the student-athletes we serve while continuing to innovate and pursue excellence.

Campbell won a second-straight Sasser Cup as the best overall program in the Big South Conference, while also producing the highest finish in the program's history in the Learfield Cup standings.  The Fighting Camels – who advanced to the national stage in women's soccer, wrestling, baseball, softball, men's golf, women's golf and men's outdoor track and field – placed 10th among non-FBS schools, and 17th among non-Power 5 programs in the Learfield rating.

The Camels won six Big South championships in 2020-21 including four tournament crowns.  Campbell won the regular-season title in baseball and softball, while claiming the conference tournament championship in men's golf, women's golf, women's soccer, and softball.
