Camels begin preseason camp Friday

2

Campbell University Athletics issued the following announcement on Aug. 4.

Campbell will begin preseason camp on Friday, August 6, with the first of 18 practices in preparation for the 2021 season.

The 18 dates will include three scrimmages, set for August 14, 21 and 28. All practices, with the exception of the final scrimmage will be closed to the public. More details on August 28's open scrimmage will be announced at a later date.

The Camels will report back to Buies Creek today, Wednesday, August 4, one month before opening the 2021 season, before their first practice Friday at 6:00 p.m. All practices prior to August 23 are currently 6:00 p.m. starts at Barker-Lane Stadium.

The Camels will open the 2021 season at FBS-member Liberty on September 4 before making their home debut on September 11 at 6:00 p.m. against Elon, 665 days since last hosting a football game at Barker-Lane Stadium (vs. No. 15 Monmouth, November 16, 2019).

Campbell defensive back Darion Slade was named to the Big South's 2021 preseason all-conference team, while quarterback Hajj-Malik Williams, tight end Julian Hill, and linebacker Justice Galloway-Velazquez all picked up honorable mention accolades, and Campbell was picked fifth in the eight-team Big South preseason poll.

Campbell is coming off an abbreviated four-game, all-FBS schedule in the fall of 2020, taking on Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State and Wake Forest. 2021 marks Campbell's 14th season since bringing football back to Buies Creek in 2008. After competing in the fall, CU did not participate in the FCS spring season.

Single game tickets for all five of Campbell's home dates this season at Barker-Lane Stadium went on sale on Tuesday. Tickets start at just $10 per game, and are available online at GoCamels.com, as well as in person at the CU Athletics Ticket Office, located at the John W. Pope Jr. Convocation Center, and by phone, at (910) 893-1459.

Season tickets also remain on sale, starting at $100.
