Democratic incumbent Michael Garrett has won his re-election bid for Senate District 27, defeating Republican challenger Sebastian King.

Garrett expressed gratitude in the following statement posted on his Facebook page on Nov. 4.

“I’ve said public service is a family commitment, and we take it to heart. I couldn’t ask for a better partner on life’s journey than Allison. 2020 threw the kitchen sink at the Garrett family, and it continues to be quite the rollercoaster. Allison, Jack, and Charlotte have supported me beyond measure every step of the way, and I am blessed far beyond what I deserve. Our family is grateful to all the friends, family, and volunteers that powered this campaign. Each of you hold a very special place in our hearts.

“While last night delivered a victory for our campaign, many of our friends came up short. They worked their hearts out and you poured your soul into their campaigns. I am in awe of the people willing to step forward and run in challenging gerrymandered districts, and I am inspired by grassroot activism that powers their campaigns.

“The fight continues, and there’s no other community I’d rather be standing with than Guilford County.”

King also thanked his supporters and encouraged everyone to pray for the state and country. In a post on his Facebook page, King wrote the following:

“Victoria and I would like to thank you all from the bottom of our hearts for the support you have given us during this race. While we came up short, we know the future is bright in North Carolina. While this race is over, our fight for a better North Carolina is not. Join me in praying for our state and for our country.”
