Brooks Matthews, a long-time active resident of Harnett County, has been sworn in as a Hartnett County Commissioner representing District 3.
“I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to represent the citizens of not only District 3, but all of Harnett County,” Matthews, a Republican, said in an October Harnett County release. “I have enjoyed my years of service with Harnett County Schools and am looking forward to working with the Harnett County Government leadership and staff.”
Matthews was nominated to fill the District 3 vacant commissioner seat when former Commissioner Howard Penny, Jr. was appointed to fill an empty seat in the North Carolina House of Representatives.
Matthews will run unopposed for the District 3 seat on the November ballot.
“I am pleased to congratulate Brooks on being sworn in as a new Commissioner,” County Manager Paula Stewart said in the release. “... He understands many of the challenges we face. I’m sure he will continue to be a strong advocate for our citizens’ needs in this position."
