Recorded cases of COVID-19 are continuing to fall across the state, according to the latest numbers from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.

That trend is reflected in cases reported in Wake, Durham, and Orange counties.

Prior to the decline, many of the recent increases seemed to center around the return of university students, ABC 11 reported on Sept. 22.

"What is important to know is that everyone continues the work that we have been doing in these preventative measures. That's important in maintaining appropriate distance, wearing a masks, and just following the Governor's Orders as we begin to reopen," Dr. Nicole Mushonga, Wake County's epidemiology director, told ABC 11.

"Our community has been great about our 3 W's. Really wearing their masks, and staying six feet apart, and washing hands,” Mushonga was quoted as saying by ABC 11 in explaining what she believes has led to the decrease.
