Frank L. Tortora, MD, FACS, has joined Central Carolina Urology and is now seeing patients in Sanford. Dr. Tortora began his practice on May 5 at the Medical Arts building next to Central Carolina Hospital, joining Drs. Kevin Khoudary and Paige Hamilton.

“Dr. Tortora is another welcome addition to Central Carolina Hospital and to Sanford,” said Dave Santoemma, CEO of CCH. “With his arrival, we continue to expand access and provide expert urological care for the residents of Sanford and Lee County.”

Dr. Tortora hails from New Haven, CT, and received his medical degree from Emory University in 1977 after completing undergraduate studies at Yale University in 1973. He completed an internship and residencies at UNC Hospital, serving as Chief Resident in Urology in 1982.

A board-certified urologist with Associated Urologists of North Carolina (AUNC), Dr. Tortora is known for developing new urological techniques and treatments. He specializes in robotic surgery and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU). One notable procedure he performs is the UroLift for treating enlarged prostate without cutting or removal of tissue.

Before joining AUNC, Dr. Tortora worked at Western Wake Hospital as President of the Medical Staff and Chairman of Surgery. He also serves as a clinical associate professor at the UNC School of Medicine.

Outside his professional life, Dr. Tortora enjoys traveling, skiing, cooking, reading, camping, gardening, water sports, and spending time with family.
