Frank L. Tortora, MD, FACS, has joined Central Carolina Urology and began seeing patients biweekly in Sanford on May 5. He will work alongside Kevin Khoudary, MD, and Paige Hamilton, MD, at the Medical Arts building next to Central Carolina Hospital (CCH).

“Dr. Tortora is another welcome addition to Central Carolina Hospital and to Sanford,” said Dave Santoemma, CEO of CCH. “With his arrival, we continue to expand access and provide expert urological care for the residents of Sanford and Lee County.”

Dr. Tortora hails from New Haven, Connecticut. He earned his medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta in 1977 after graduating with honors from Yale University in 1973. His training included an internship in surgery at UNC Hospital followed by residencies in surgery and urology at UNC, where he was Chief Resident in Urology in 1982.

As a board-certified urologist with Associated Urologists of North Carolina (AUNC), Dr. Tortora is recognized nationally for developing new urological techniques and treatments. He has contributed significantly to advancements in treating male sexual dysfunction and specializes in robotic surgery and high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU).

Among the procedures he performs is the UroLift, a minimally invasive treatment for an enlarged prostate that avoids cutting or removing prostate tissue.

Before joining AUNC, Dr. Tortora worked at Western Wake Hospital as President of the Medical Staff and Chairman of Surgery. He also serves as a clinical associate professor at the UNC School of Medicine’s departments of surgery and family practice. Additionally, he is a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Urological Surgeons, as well as a member of the American Board of Urology.

In his personal time, Dr. Tortora enjoys traveling, skiing, spending time with his family including his labrador retrievers; his hobbies include cooking, reading, camping, gardening, and water sports.
