FOIA Request to Town Of Coats regarding procurement bids and RFP submissions on February 1, 2026.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted by South Triangle News to the Town Of Coats, North Carolina, seeking access to records related to procurement bids and responses to requests for proposals (RFPs) received by the city during the immediately preceding calendar month. The request was made under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1.

The requested records include details such as solicitation or project titles, names of bidders or proposers, submission dates, bid amounts or proposed costs, and descriptions of the goods or services proposed. The request specifies that these records should be provided in electronic format if available and emphasizes that it seeks only existing documents without necessitating the creation of new ones.

The purpose of this request is to gather information of public interest for dissemination. The requester has indicated that they are a member of the media and have requested a fee waiver due to their role in gathering and reporting news. Additionally, they are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, an organization dedicated to investigating governmental agencies and promoting transparency through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
