Central Carolina Hospital has been recognized by the American Heart Association with the Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Silver Plus and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award for 2025. This acknowledgment highlights the hospital’s commitment to enhancing care for patients with stroke and diabetes.
Steven Messe, M.D., volunteer chair of the American Heart Association Stroke System of Care Advisory Group, stated, “We are incredibly pleased to recognize Central Carolina Hospital for its commitment to caring for patients with stroke.” He noted that participation in Get With The Guidelines is linked to better patient outcomes, fewer readmissions, and reduced mortality rates.
The Target: Type 2 Diabetes program focuses on ensuring that hospitalized patients with Type 2 diabetes receive up-to-date, evidence-based care during their treatment for stroke. This marks the second recognition in three years for Central Carolina Hospital in this area; they also received the same award in 2023 based on data from calendar year 2024.
Dave Santoemma, CEO of CCH, expressed satisfaction with this achievement, stating, “We are pleased to receive this recognition from the American Heart Association for our sustained commitment to providing quality care to patients with diabetes.” He emphasized that these efforts aim to ensure longer and healthier lives for people living in Sanford and Lee County.
Connette Gill, Chief Nursing Officer at CCH, highlighted their dedication to improving patient care by following current treatment guidelines. She said that “Get With The Guidelines makes it easier for our teams to put proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis,” which can enhance patient recovery according to studies.
Participants in the Get With The Guidelines program qualify annually for awards by demonstrating their dedication to quality stroke care. Besides adhering to treatment guidelines, they also focus on educating patients about managing health and recovery at home.
