Gabrielle “Gabby” Nixon, RN, has been appointed as the new Inpatient Nursing Director at Central Carolina Hospital. In her new role, she will be overseeing the Intensive Care Unit, Medical-Telemetry Unit, and Hemodialysis Unit.

Nixon, originally from Charlotte, grew up in Wilmington. She began her career at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, spending 11 years as a Registered Nurse, followed by two years as a Clinical Coordinator, two years as an Administrative Coordinator, and more than two years as a Nurse Manager.

Between 2021 and 2023, Nixon worked as a traveling nurse at Central Carolina Hospital. She returned to the hospital in May 2024 as the Inpatient Nursing Manager. In February of this year, she was promoted to her current position.

“I’ve always loved Central Carolina ever since I came through the door,” Nixon stated. “I came back and I fell in love with the people, so I guess one of the reasons I came back was because of the staff I love, all of the staff that worked here prior to me accepting the position. It just felt like home, and I wanted to be able to make a difference, and I felt that I had a lot to offer.”

“I feel like Central Carolina has the opportunity to be the best, and I really believe that,” Nixon expressed. “I think with the right people in place, it can be a great place to work.”

Nixon’s educational background includes a Diploma of Nursing from Brunswick Community College in 1998, an Associates Degree in Nursing from James Spring Community College in 2002, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from UNC Wilmington in 2018.

Currently residing in Fayetteville, Nixon is the mother of two daughters serving in the military. Erica Wrisbon, 32, serves in the U.S. Navy, and Nicole Wrisbon serves in the U.S. Army—both residing in Hampton, VA. Nixon is also a grandmother to 3-year-old Josiah.
