Central Carolina Hospital recently held its annual Service Awards luncheon, recognizing 49 employees for their long-term dedication to the hospital. The event took place on May 14 at Carolina Trace Country Club.

Among those honored was Jimmy Whitaker, Director of Information Technologies and Services, who has served the hospital for 45 years. Denise Spivey-Johnson, RN, from the Birth Center, was recognized for her 40 years of service.

Four employees were acknowledged for 35 years of commitment: Angel Gunter from Admitting; Paula McGehee, RN, Tammy Overton, RN, both from the Birth Center; and Sherry Jarvis from Patient Billing. Paula Cassady, RN, from Central Carolina General Surgery and Tammy Hayes, OR Coordinator in Materials Management were honored for 30 years of service.

Vanessa King received recognition as the 2025 Mercy Award recipient for CCH. Other nominees included Angel Johnson and Scarlet Santos. Crystal Veal from Duke Quality Network attended the event.

Dave Santoemma, CEO of CCH stated: “I can genuinely say that Central Carolina’s strongest asset is our people.” He emphasized the importance of staff in healthcare: “Healthcare is a very people-intensive business… It takes great humanity and heart.”

Santoemma expressed gratitude towards the staff: “I want to personally thank our entire staff for all they do to contribute to CCH and help us fulfill our mission of making our communities healthier.”
