Central Carolina Hospital (CCH) has been recognized by the American Heart Association with the Get With The Guidelines – Stroke Silver Plus and Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll award for 2025. This acknowledgment highlights CCH’s commitment to improving care for patients with stroke and diabetes.

Steven Messe, M.D., volunteer chair of the American Heart Association Stroke System of Care Advisory Group, expressed satisfaction with CCH’s dedication to patient care. “We are incredibly pleased to recognize Central Carolina Hospital for its commitment to caring for patients with stroke,” he said. He emphasized that participation in the program is linked to better patient outcomes, fewer readmissions, and lower mortality rates.

The Target: Type 2 Diabetes program focuses on ensuring that patients with Type 2 diabetes receive up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to stroke. This is not the first time CCH has been acknowledged; they also received recognition in 2023. The current award is based on hospital data from 2024.

Dave Santoemma, CEO of CCH, stated, “We are pleased to receive this recognition from the American Heart Association for our sustained commitment to providing quality care to patients with diabetes.” He noted that these efforts aim to ensure longer and healthier lives for residents in Sanford and Lee County.

Connette Gill, Chief Nursing Officer at CCH, reiterated the hospital’s commitment. “CCH is committed to improving patient care by adhering to the latest treatment guidelines,” she said. She added that Get With The Guidelines facilitates applying proven knowledge daily, aiding patient recovery.

The annual Get With The Guidelines program recognizes participants who demonstrate a commitment to quality stroke care by following treatment guidelines and educating patients about managing their health post-discharge.
